The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment: Eckhart Tolle (Amazon)

This book really says it all. I found it to be a fabulous guide and explanation to practicing presence however, some parts can seem confusing at first. I would recommend reading this and returning to it again and again. The more your sense of presence grows, the clearer the material becomes.

Kriya Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Siddhas: Marshall Govindan (Amazon)

It makes perfect sense after understanding about presence; until then it just sounds like some ancient sayings. This is a fabulous book and I like to read it a bit at a time. There are a lot of ritual-type expectations in this book but as with any of these writing, use what makes sense and works for you. It does include some wonderful practices!

The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are: Alan Watts (Amazon)

This guy is fabulous. He is highly educated, funny, friendly and all of his writings are incredibly insightful. He does a wonderful job of uniting Eastern and Western philosophy. He has written many books, this is one of my favorites but honestly, any of his work is worth reading. There are also many videos with his lectures that are free on You Tube. These are nice to listen to as his teaching and voice are equally delightful.

The Bhagavad Gita (Penguin Classics): Laurie Patton (Amazon)

If you like a more poetic approach, this may be for you. It doesn’t explain presence in a straightforward way but sometimes more of a story form expresses something clearly.

Shiva Sutras The Supreme Awakening (Amazon)

This book describes three awakenings and is in essence the teachings of nonduality. It can be a complicated read; I look at it as more of a reference book. When I first read it, I thought, “What the hell is this saying”? After returning to it later it made complete sense. This is a good one!

I Am: Jean Klein (Amazon)

Great book and free if you have a Kindle Membership. This clearly explains singularity.

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself: Michael A. Singer (Amazon)

Michael Singer is a yogi who brilliantly and clearly explains the true self as well as the practice of presence. An excellent book and easy to read. On the cover Deepak Chopra says to read this book carefully and he is so right!

Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender: Hawkins M.D. Ph.D, David R. (Amazon)

David Hawkins does a nice job of explaining surrender. If you like a technique, this is a good book. It's 99 cents on Kindle too!
